Tips for Birthday Treat Please

Hi

I am heading to Barbados staying at Ocean 11 near Turtle Beach Resort for 11 nights at end of November/beginning of December this is to coincide with my 30th birthday. I am hoping to plan a special day on 4th December, which is a Sunday.

Any tips for things to do during the day, restaurants (not romantic tho' I am going with my sister!!) bars and clubs would be appreciated.... we love soca and dancehall music.

It is my first trip to the island having visited Antigua, St Maarten and Jamaica previously.... am told Barbados will beat them all hands down....here's hoping!

You can visit the Boatyard. It’s a nice open air club and bar. There is also Club Xtreme on the south coast. Barbados is definitely a more versatile destination than those mentioned above. You should enjoy the Boatyard and Club Xtreme.

How about a catamaran lunch cruise they are lots of fun then you can go back to Ocean 11 shower and change and head out again. Perhaps have dinner at somewhere like Café Sol it is not fancy but fun and lively or Ship in then just hang out in the pap mabey somewhere like McBride's do you like Reggae. They have Reggae band that plays there.

You will probably find good music being there around Independence Day - last time I was there at that time period, Krosfyah played at the Boatyard - check out websites like http://www.kadooment.com for calendar updates of what is happening -

Not sure of the difference in the UK, but the first time we were in Barbados, we found that what we call dancehall in the US (Beenie, Elephant Man, etc...) is referred to as "Bashment" in Barbados - When we asked for Dancehall we got lovers rock!

For a special birthday dinner, I would do Josefs - it can be on the romantic side, but doesn't have to be - it is so beautiful though, and the food is excellent.

And I agree that Barbados beats those islands hands down!

Thanks for the tips everyone.

Reggae is good too, thanks.

Suz - yep my idea of dancehall is the same as yours so will follow 'Bashment' no lover’s rock thanks! Have found a site called www.bajandancehall.com during my searches last night that seems to have some good inside info on events/fetes.

Where is Josefs?

geneticsniper - is Club Extreme best at weekends?

We were considering starting the day in a peaceful/thankful way and attending a church service (as it is the day of rest) has anyone been to the Anglican church in St Lawrence Gap?

Josefs is in the Gap - it is a beautiful restaurant - tables on a stone patio overlooking the water - and incredible food.

I was not that impressed by Club Extreme - I found the crowd to be very young. They do have a website, so you can view pictures of various events and judge for yourself.
